Before a product has a shape, it has a material. Someone chose what it was made of, and every exam question about it starts there. A pan, a pencil and a plank each behave in their own way, each came out of the ground or a forest, and each reaches a workshop in a size somebody agreed in advance. Here's what matters most in this chapter, and which video to press first.
The early videos give you the words for what a material is like, and the later ones put those words to work. Start from nothing and go in order, or revise by the gap.
Physical properties: metals, non-metals and the main material groups comes first. It sorts the five main groups, and covers the properties you could measure without breaking anything, like density and how fast heat passes through. Working properties of materials: strength, hardness, toughness and more is next. A common slip is bare words like strong and hard, which earn nothing until you say what the material resists. Properties at work: why products are made from the materials they are is for anyone who already has the words. You name a property, a real product, and why that property makes the product work. Some courses ask for this at least once in a material area of your choice, so keep your own area in mind. Where materials come from: sources and converting them into workable forms follows a material from the forest, the mine or the oil well to the plank, sheet or granules a maker buys. It needs very little from the videos before it. Stock forms, standard sizes and standard components ends the chapter. It tells material, stock form and ready-made part apart, and gives the sizes and units each one is bought in. You can search for any video by its name or its code, and the codes are right there on the list. The quickest way is the scholafly.com website, which lists every video in every subject.
Next in the chapter is Physical properties: metals, non-metals and the main material groups. Hopefully that's next in your feed, but if not, search for ScholaFly D T oh three, oh one.
Every other video is on scholafly.com too, easy to search by video code or by keyword. Whatever you're revising, go there and have a look, or, watch the next video.
