Read the transcript
In the last chapter, instructions travelled between the processor and a box called main memory, and nobody said what was inside it. This chapter opens that box, and then looks at where a computer keeps everything it must not forget when the power goes off. This is Memory and storage, for GCSE Computer Science, on any exam board.
Here's the whole chapter laid out on your screen, plus a couple of things worth knowing before you press play on the first video.
It starts with RAM, ROM and the types of memory. Then it looks at the small, fast store sitting beside the processor, the cache. After that comes what happens when the machine runs out of space, virtual memory. Next, secondary storage: magnetic, solid state and optical drives. Then comes choosing the right storage for a job. It finishes with cloud storage, and where your files really live.
One practical thing first: every video here carries its own short code, sitting right beside its title, and that's a simple way to find the right one. Take the secondary storage video. Search ScholaFly C S oh five, oh four, and that exact video comes straight up.
The other trick is the thumbs-up sitting on each video. Once something has properly landed for you, tap it, and that video is marked as done. Anything left without a thumbs-up becomes your revision list, so you always know what's still to do. And my commitment to you is this: if I've not done a great job teaching something and it's confusing, leave a comment, and I'll have a crack at making a better video.
Next in the chapter is RAM, ROM and types of memory, where the box finally gets opened. Hopefully that's next in your feed - but if not, search for ScholaFly C S oh five, oh one.
